Use your cabin as a base camp for your outdoor adventures. When staying at Deerwoode Reserve, you are a short distance from many stunning natural areas with free entry! Brevard is the perfect location to get outside.
If you’re traveling from a big city like Charlotte, Atlanta, Jacksonville, etc., you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy and inexpensive it is to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. In Brevard, we are surrounded by nature in all directions, with scenic views on every road you drive and trail you hike.
And from your cabin at Deerwoode, you don’t even have to drive anywhere if you don’t want to! We have hikes, water activities, and views on our 175 acre property.
There are no entry fees for the nearby state and national parks and forests!
Pisgah National Forest
Over 500,000 acres of hardwood forest, whitewater rivers, waterfalls, and hundreds of miles of trails. In less than a 30 minute drive from Deerwoode, you can see the iconic Looking Glass Falls right from the road. You can also find trails to hike to see other waterfalls, day use areas for picnics, the Cradle of Forestry (fee), visit Sliding Rock (fee), and continue driving to reach the Blue Ridge Parkway. Blue Ridge Parkway
Known as “America’s Favorite Drive” for a reason! This winding mountain road has stunning overlooks with views of the mountains, access to hikes, and a scenic way to travel to other cities. Head northeast towards Asheville, or head west towards the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there’s no wrong answer. Check road conditions before your drive.
Gorges State Park
Free to enter year round with multiple hiking and biking trails. The park features 26 waterfalls and the start of the Rainbow Falls Trail (waterfall located in Pisgah National Forest). You can also picnic or go fishing! Plan your trip to the park.
DuPont State Recreational Forest
A more rugged outdoor experience with multi-use trails and several waterfalls! Get outside and enjoy your favorite activity from hiking to waterfalls and mountain biking to fishing and hunting. Be sure to come prepared, there are no food services, limited options for public drinking water, and limited cell phone service. Plan ahead.
French Broad River
The French Broad River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, and begins in nearby Rosman, NC. This 218 mile river flows north into Tennessee, and you can access it right here at Deerwoode Reserve! From our property you can float or paddle down the river, fish from the dock, or sit and watch the water flow. There are multiple access points nearby options for guided trips from local outfitters. Check the river’s water levels as it can change daily and a higher level can mean faster flowing water and dangerous conditions. Learn more about the history of the river.
Deerwoode Reserve
Right outside your cabin, you can find hiking trails, picnic tables, fishing ponds, paddling on the lake, the swimmin’ hole, birdwatching, and paths through the bamboo forest and garden. Choose your own adventure – hike to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, kick back on a hammock by the lake, or do both! You can have a full day of adventure without having to drive anywhere.
