Deerwoode Reserve | Wooden sign, greetings.

Welcome to the Fall Issue of our newsletter!

This is an exciting time for us as we experience our first fall and winter seasons in Brevard, NC. The weather has shifted to slightly cooler nights, not as humid days, and the leaves are just starting to show signs of changing to yellows and reds.

We are anticipating all the fall things to do in the mountains, like witnessing the beautiful leaf season and sitting around bonfires making s’mores.  Also, because we live in Transylvania County, we are looking forward to the Halloween celebrations around town.

If you’re able to get away this fall, we welcome you to visit us and experience the peacefulness of Deerwoode Reserve. There’s still time to make some fun family memories this year. Just a note that our cabins will be closed from January 3 to April 3, 2022.

We hope your families can slow down and enjoy all the blessings that fall brings and may you have a safe & wonderful holiday season!

Many Thanks,
Scott & Dionne
Tim & Jessica

We have been busy enhancing the outdoor spaces around the cabins. Many of them have their own private fire pit and we have added picnic tables and charcoal grills to all the cabins as an added convenience. Giving you extra time outdoors to watch the wildlife, see how the sky changes during sunset and soak in the beautiful natural surroundings is our goal. We hope our guests enjoy these newly added outdoor amenities, allowing you more family time to relax and make memories!

Treat yourself to a day trip to Biltmore!

The Biltmore House, built by George Vanderbilt, opened to his family and friends in 1896, after 6 years of construction. This stunning 250-room French Renaissance chateau is a true marvel. The home contains over four acres of floor space, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and 65 fireplaces.

Fall is a magical time in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the perfect time to immerse yourself in the beauty of Biltmore’s landscapes as the colorful transformation takes place across the grounds.

Biltmore is America’s largest home, sitting on 8,000 acres of gardens & grounds, featuring hiking trails, biking, fishing, horseback riding and more. There are shops and restaurants to enjoy, and you can even visit the winery and farm.  Purchase tickets to tour the house for the upcoming fall and holiday seasons!

Thank You For Your Service

Army National Guard

It was our pleasure to host the guys in the Army National Guard ODA2122. This group of incredible men stayed in the Coyote Lodge and used our site as home base for their week of training. We hope the peaceful setting was a small respite from the long days of training. These men make personal sacrifices daily and are ready to be called to action at a moment’s notice. They dedicate their lives to ensure our freedom. Although we were unable to hear the stories of their heroism due to their confidential nature, we support you and thank you for your dedicated service!

Matt Mayes

Lead Singer of Jupiter Coyote

Bill & Elizabeth Mayes’ son, Matt Mayes is co-founder and lead singer of Jupiter Coyote, which he describes as a jam band that’s a mixture of good ole’ Southern Appalachian Boogie & Bluegrass infused Funk Rock. Jupiter Coyote has played over 5,000 shows and counting and has toured for over 20 years. Matt has written over 300 songs and because he grew up on the Deerwoode property, it has influenced his music and has been the inspiration for many of his songs. Matt and band member John Meyer even played a special house show at the recent Camp Deerwoode reunion that was the highlight of the weekend. Matt was recently featured in Southern Flavor Magazine in the Musician’s Taste section “Talks Marsh Hens and Marinade.”
