Greetings from Deerwoode Reserve - Newsletter
Spring in Brevard NC

Welcome from the Owners

The mountains are alive, the trees green and full, and the flowers are blooming. Spring is such a pretty time of year in Western North Carolina. The temperatures are mild. Sunny warm days and cool nights. It’s the perfect recipe for outdoor recreation, exploring the local waterfalls and finding some amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We welcome you to our third season of hosting guests at Deerwoode Reserve. Each year we strive to provide the perfect location for your romantic getaway or family retreat. Making small improvements as we go, but maintaining the rustic, natural setting and preserving the history of this land. Our plans just keep growing, along with our to-do list, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Keep reading for all the new updates this year and what’s in the works for 2024.

We thank you, our new guests and those who continue to visit year after year. We appreciate the support, your feedback and encouragement to keep working on making your stay with us unforgettable!

Here’s to Season 3! It’s our pleasure to host you!

Hope to see you soon,
Scott & Dionne Hodgson

Coyote Lodge at Deerwoode Reserve

Comfortable Updates to Coyote Lodge!

Hosting large groups and extended family members is quite popular in the Coyote Lodge. There’s plenty of room to gather and even separate areas to spread out. At the center of all get-togethers is food. Preparing meals together, sharing recipes, teaching the young ones to help and making memories in the kitchen is the fun part. The cleaning up; however, is the dreaded part.

Kitchen Improvements at Coyote Lodge Deerwoode Reserve

In order to make your stay more comfortable, we added a brand-new dishwasher to the Coyote Lodge kitchen. This upgrade, along with additional cabinets and drawer space, will give our guests room for more storage and for extra time with their loved ones.

Meadow Cabin at Deerwoode Reserve

Meadow Cabin is Now More Accessible!

In order to assist our guests with mobility challenges, we have enhanced Meadow Cabin with features that make getting around a little bit easier. First, we added another bedroom to allow for additional guests in this roomy cabin. Now as a two-bedroom unit, there is a main bedroom with king bed, a second queen bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the large living room featuring a gas fireplace. The bathroom has an easy walk-in, full size shower with grab bars in the shower and next to the toilet. All the doorways are 36” to allow for wheelchair access. A new covered deck was added to the front along with a ramp to the parking area. We hope these upgrades are inviting to guests of all abilities to make your stay at Deerwoode accessible and comfortable.

WOLF AND BEAR CABIN UPGRADES

We know it wasn’t the easiest to stay in a cabin with only one sink in the bathroom. Now, Wolf Cabin has a second bar sink in the kitchenette. We know this will make it easier for guests in this cabin.

Wolf Cabin at Deerwoode Reserve

Both Wolf and Bear cabins used to have window A/C units and electric heaters. The heating and cooling function has now been improved with new PTEC air & heat units, like what hotels have. These will give our guests an easy way to stay comfortable while staying with us. They both also feature gas fireplaces that is the original stonework from when the property was developed as a summer camp in the 1930’s.

Mayes Event Center at Deerwoode Reserve

Announcing the Mayes Event Center

Now that all the cabins have been updated & refreshed, we have turned our attention to an even bigger project. Giving a new purpose to the once PC Gym, where campers participated in a variety of sports, and then the Deerwoode Gym, a community gym membership, into an amazing event venue. We have reimagined this building into a diverse space to host a variety of community and private events.

We are proud to announce that The Mayes Event Center will be opening April 2024! It will feature an indoor banquet hall that’s climate controlled, complete with a catering kitchen, bridal suite, restrooms, and an outdoor covered pavilion area. It’s the perfect spot to hold weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, music concerts & festivals, community events and more.

Stay tuned to our website and social media for construction updates as we move along. We think it’s going to be a great addition to our property, accommodations and amenities.
