February 2026 News from Deerwoode

Winter Wonderland, Coyote Lodge Renovation, Fly Fishing School and more!

A Winter Wonderland at Deerwoode

Winter has certainly found us in the Western NC Mountains. With the start to 2026, we’ve experienced some pretty cold days, survived an ice storm and recently the property was blanketed in several inches of snow. Watching the snow fall, turning the trees & mountain landscape into a winter wonderland, creates such a beautiful and peaceful view. While we tend to slow down this time of year with less visitors, we take this break to reflect on past years and look for ways we can continue to improve the guest experience. The end of 2025 marked our fifth season and we are so thankful for all of our past guests who came to visit ~ all the families who came to gather and celebrate, couples that got married surrounded by loved ones, groups who came to explore & go on adventures, couples that visited to reconnect and all the people who chose us as their place to get away. We are grateful for the first five years, and have so much more planned. This winter we’ve been busy with new projects.  One project currently underway is giving Coyote Lodge a new, fresh, updated “lodgy” look soon. Stay tuned for more updates and other projects around the property.

We hope you’ll consider planning a trip to Brevard this year. Our property is perfect for small or large gatherings, for families and groups, where everyone can stay & play together, while allowing plenty of space to explore nature and find time to relax, recharge and reconnect. We still have a few wedding weekends available in 2026 and weekday summer dates open for family reunions. Whatever your goals for 2026 may be, we hope they include spending more quality time with those important to you, finding ways to reduce your daily stress, and looking for new adventures to experience. We might just be able to help with all three of those, plus you’ll make some pretty great memories that will last a lifetime!

Our Big Winter Project at Coyote Lodge

The Coyote Lodge was built around 1983 and replaced an old original camp building. The stone fireplace is original from the 1920’s. This winter we’ve reimagined the look of the Lodge and it’s undergoing a complete transformation. The exterior finish is being replaced with all new split log siding and a lighter stain finish. The front porches will be refreshed with new locust posts. To complete the new look, a new metal roof is being installed. Don’t worry, it will still have that rustic charm, just with a little more insulation in the walls and less leaks in the roof around the chimney when it pours. We’re also planning to refresh the interior spaces, to make the Coyote Lodge even more beautiful and comfortable.

Saturday, the energy builds with the Fifth Annual Forks of the River Fly Fishing & Music Festival—a full day celebration blending river culture, live music, education, and hands-on experiences. Browse gear from trusted fly-fishing brands, take part in clinics and seminars, watch casting demonstrations, enjoy local craft beer and food trucks, and explore vendor booths and kid-friendly activities. The day is capped with live performances by Woody Platt & the Bluegrass Gentlemen, Red Clay Revival, and Pretty Little Goat, creating a soundtrack as rich as the waters flowing beside the festival grounds.
