BIG LOG CABIN HAS BEEN COMPLETELY RENOVATED!
Bringing this original Vermont Log Cabin back to life has been such a huge but rewarding project. Built in 1976 by Bill & Elizabeth Mayes, this was their personal home where they lived and raised their sons. After a time of it being unoccupied, we gave the cabin some much needed love and attention to bring it to modern standards of comfort for your family vacation.
The kitchen and bathrooms were completely renovated with custom wood cabinets built from reclaimed camp boards, along with new granite countertops and all new stainless appliances. The windows have been replaced, new metal roof added, plumbing & electrical updated, new central heat & air installed and new carpet laid in the bedrooms. Your family will have plenty of room to spread out in this 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 3,000 sq. ft. log home!
The huge master suite has a private bath and sitting room with TV on the main floor. Upstairs there’s two queen bedrooms, a fun bunk room that has a TV and 2 bunk beds (full size on the bottom and twin on the top), as well as a full bathroom with tub/shower and double vanity. The living room features an old cast iron gas heater, leather sectional sofa and is open to the kitchen. The dining room and extra sitting room is filled with natural light and amazing views of the property with wall-to-wall windows.
Situated right next to the swimming hole, with two covered porches, a deck, and with its own outdoor covered wood pavilion & stone fireplace, this property is sure to be your family’s next favorite hang out spot. Big Log Cabin will be open year-round, so make your reservations to experience it for yourself!
SPECTACULAR FALL COLORS FROM THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY
No visit to North Carolina can be complete without a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Offering breathtaking views of mountain vistas for miles, incredible sunset colors that fill the sky, and fiery fall colors on the mountain side, it is a must-see destination. This scenic byway goes from Cherokee, TN through NC and into Virginia. Brevard is closest to the Mt. Pisgah area of the parkway and on the way up, you’ll pass by a couple favorite spots, Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls.
First Annual Sugarloaf Mountain Jam was a huge success!
Deerwoode Reserve hosted our first big event and rocked the night with Jupiter Coyote full band concert sponsored by Fields Auto Group. This evening was a special homecoming for co-founders of Jupiter Coyote, Matt Mayes and John Felty. They started playing together during the Camp Deerwoode summers around the campfire with the campers. Matt’s parents, Bill & Elizabeth Mayes, came to Brevard in 1966 and Matt was raised here on this property while the Mayes owned and operated the camp. Matt continues to tour and has written over 300 songs, with many of them inspired by and written about the Deerwoode property.
Thanks to the band members: Noel Felty-drums, Ponchito-congas/percussion, John Meyer-guitar, Steve Trisman-fiddle, Sanders Brightwell-bass, Matthew Mayes-guitar, guijo and special guest co-founding member John Felty-guitar. The 250 Jupiter Coyote fans who attended the concert were thrilled to experience this special homecoming, calling it a surreal weekend. We can’t wait for next year. Mark your calendars for the Second Annual Sugarloaf Mountain Jam, Saturday, September 30, 2023. Cabins Open Year-Round
Deerwoode Reserve
We’ve got a comfortable cabin waiting for you this winter while you travel through the mountains of North Carolina. During the winter, you’ll find there’s less people & it’s easier to explore popular destinations without all the crowds. With the cooler daytime temps, it makes for excellent weather to go mountain biking & hiking.
When there’s less leaves on the trees, you’ll enjoy even more breathtaking views from areas typically blocked in the summer. Not to mention, we do sometimes get snow & that’s always a fun time spending the day sledding, making snow angels & building a snowman. We’ll be keeping a few of our larger cabins open all year, so your family can enjoy the mountains in style! Take a look at Big Log Cabin, Barn Cabin, Little Log Cabin and Otter Cabin, for your winter stay. They’ve all been recently remodeled & will keep you toasty warm!
