Mountain Biking, Hiking, Fishing & More

There are a variety of opportunities for water sports in the area including flat water float trips, white water boating, kayaking, and fly fishing. We have a mile and a half of French Broad River frontage here at Deerwoode where you can catch Brown Trout, Large & Small Mouth, Crappie, and Muskies. The River runs right by a few cabins. Our 8 lakes and ponds are loaded with Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Small Mounth Bass, Blue Gil, Perch, and Catfish. For fly fishing trips and equipment check out  Davidson River Outfitters.  For boating and fishing on the French Broad River contact our friends at Headwater Outfitters  or Pura Vida Adventures, or just bring your own gear.

Rock climbing

Looking Glass Rock  in Pisgah National Forest is well-known in climbing circles for its granite face offering two- to eight-stage climbs up to 600 ft. In the same vicinity is Cedar Rock, which also offers a variety of climbs. Horseback riding

The wooded trails of Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest offer miles of horseback riding. Pisgah Forest Stables offers one- and two-hour guided trail rides and leave hourly throughout the day.  Whitewater Equestrian Center also offers guided rides. 


There are 5 really good golf courses within a few miles of Deerwoode. Glen Cannon and Connestee Falls, both are semi-public courses with full service pro shops and club houses. Other great public courses are Broadmoor, Etowah, and Cummings Cove.

Performing Arts

During the summer the Brevard Music Center offers world class concerts in their open air auditorium that have kept people coming back to Brevard for decades. These are world class, classically trained musicians. The Porter Center for Performing Arts on the Brevard College campus offers performances year-round ranging from classical to bluegrass to comedy.

The famous Flat Rock Playhouse is about a thirty minute drive and there is also the Brevard Little Theatre. Both offer a variety of performances throughout the year.


Downtown Brevard has lots of great shopping. There are a number of antique stores and gift shops, specialty food shops, outfitters and jewelers. There is also one of the coolest toy stores you will ever see, O. P. Taylor’s. For a detailed list of businesses, visit the Land of Waterfalls website. 


The art community in Transylvania County is thriving. One of the town’s talents is right here at Deerwoode. Liz Mayes is a award winning watercolor painter. It’s amazing how one small little town can have so many great restaurants. The Hob Nob, Jordan Street Cafe, The Square Root, Fall’s Landing, Big Mikes, and The Quarry are just a few.

If you find you just need to relax, check out a spa experience. Elements and La Petite Spa are both full service day spas in downtown Brevard. Or you may just want to sit on your porch at Deerwoode or walk around this vast property. We are a big place and it is very private, peaceful, and quiet.
